Due to the Covid-19 pandemic our choir is currently not meeting.
Choir at Our Saviour’s has been a regular part of our church life for decades. We have never been a group of professionals by any means as over the years our members have been a mix of those who can read music and those who learn by ear alone. But, regardless of our abilities, we have always been a group of people who love music and love sharing our musical talents to sing praise and honour to our triune God. Our favourite times to sing have been Advent and Christmas as well as Lent and Easter.
As many of us have aged and our life styles have changed we no longer meet every week from September to June, but meet from October to Christmas and mid-February to May. This allows everyone to have more free time to visit family elsewhere, enjoy winter vacations, and accommodates our “snow birds”! We have developed long and enduring friendships with each other. We always welcome new choir members with open arms but, unfortunately, due to COVID-19 we will not have choir for the remaining of the pandemic. The BC CDC guidelines state the following: “Public health recommends that people who are more likely to experience complications of COVID-19 – including older adults – avoid singing with others in-person, especially in larger groups.” As the majority of our choir are 65 years of age or older we had no choice but to suspend choir for now. Learning parts is simply something that so many of our choir members are not able to do on their own, so Zoom choir or recording every individual choir member separately was something I knew would not work with our group.
I have been the Choir Director for 23 years and look forward, with great anticipation and joy, to the day we can once again gather in the Sanctuary for a regular choir practice. Continue singing at home everyone and keep those vocal chords in shape – we will need you back in choir before you know it! Karla Paciejewski
