Maundy Thursday @ 7:00 pm
Good Friday Tenebrae Service @ 7:30 pm
Easter Sunday Service @ 10:00 am

Holy Week as it’s known includes Palm/Passion Sunday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. At the end of Holy Week we celebrate Easter Sunday. Each year we follow the same pattern as we celebrate first Jesus entry into Jerusalem with people waving palm branches and singing Hosanna, Hosanna on Palm/Passion Sunday. On that same day we get a foretaste of what happens later in the week as we read from one of the gospels about Jesus trial and crucifixion.

Maundy Thursday comes next. Maundy means a new commandment. We read from John 13:1-35 where in verse 34 Jesus says “ I give you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, so you also must love each other. This is how everyone will know that you are my disciples, when you love each other.” This story involves Jesus washing his disciples feet as an example of love. This year we will celebrate this at Grace Anglican at 7:00 pm.

Good Friday comes next. On this day we also have a Tenenbrae service where we read passages from Jesus final days, sing hymns and one by one extinguish a set of 7 candles. This is a power service, expecially once we get to the last candle.

Finally the culmination of the week happens on Easter Sunday. This joyous celebration of Jesus who is risen from the dead takes place on the Sunday morning. Here we acknowledge that death cannot defeat life and that God cannot be silenced no matter what we do.
