Here’s a sneak preview of our schedule and some of the activities.
In our opening assembly the kids meet there good friend Steve. Each morning Steve get’s a piece of God’s armour and the kids learn what each piece signifies. Steve will receive the Belt of Truth, the Breastplate of Righteousness, the Shoes of Peace, the Shield of Faith, the Helmet of Salvation and finally the Sword of the Spirit taken from Ephesians 6:14-17.
After having a chat with Steve the kids get a chance to burn off some energy as they dance and sing to various music videos. You can check out our 2014 VBS Wrap Up Video to see the kids in action from last year.
Finally we have an activity where the kids connect the scripture verse of the day with an activity like building a tower or a house to see if it can stand. The verses we’re doing are:
Day 1 – Genesis 1:1-5 (God Builds the World)
Day 2 – Genesis 11:3-4 (God Creates Through Us)
Day 3 – Psalm 139:13-14 (God Builds Us)
Day 4 – Matthew 7: 24-27 (God Builds a Foundation)
Day 5 – 1 Thessalonians 5:11 (We Build Community)
After the kids head off to the classrooms to go deeper into the days bible verse.
After being in the classroom they go outside and alternately play games or build. On the last day our games will involve water so they’ll need a change of clothes. For our take home building project this year we’ll be making a Minecraft Chest. Below is a sample picture. The one they make will be a little smaller and they get to put it together with help from our volunteers and then paint it themselves. Always lots of fun!
By this point they’ve worked up an appetite so they head inside to have a snack. The snacks are Minecraft themed. Some of the snacks they even build themselves.
The last thing we do is gather all together one more time, sing some more songs and have Steve come out so the kids can share what their favourite part of the day was. Then the parents sign there children out, head home and the next day we do it all over again!
