Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. Incline your ear, and come to me; listen, so that you may live. These beautiful words from Isaiah 55:2-3 invite us to listen. Of course this isn’t easy when we have kids, spouse, family and friends all wanting a listening ear. We get tired of listening and sometimes we want someone to listen to us. God asks us to listen but God also listens. It’s a two way conversation, one where we can unburden ourselves, ask for guidance and let out the things that are weighing on our minds. And God in turn wants to speak words of life to us, as Isaiah explains. We listen to God so that we may live. Often listening drains us but listening to God is the total opposite. We’re given words of encouragement, guidance and forgiveness. One way to listen is by taking time during the day to stop. Luther Seminary in Minnesota offers a daily email devotion that might help you. Whenever you check tour email you can take a moment wherever you are to stop, read some scripture, reflection and a prayer. You never know what God is waiting to say to you.
